Janet’s resume was written at the peak of a mega-merger between a major bank and a global investment company. Financial organizations were in fierce competition for talent as many employees scrambled for safer ground.
Her original resume covered 12+ years of employment and was squeezed on to one page with very narrow margins making it difficult to read and hard to see how her experience and accomplishments distinguished her from the competition.
The new strategically formatted resume positions Janet as the leader she is. Billboard type call-outs at the top of the resume with descriptive summary statements and power packed bullets draw the reader’s attention to Janet’s differentiating skill set which were, and continue to be, very much in demand.
Next, I moved her licenses from the bottom of page two to the top half of page one directly under the billboards where they are immediately noticeable and make clear the level of professional licensing that Janet holds.
The keyword section under Distinctive Fit and Value focuses on her core competencies and ties to the summary statements at the top of the resume. The Career Highlights section displays clear and powerful descriptors of Janet’s financial acumen, what she is known for and what she has accomplished.
Much of her success was tied to the sales model she created and the numbers she delivered. Not only were they impressive, her results exceeded expectations as evidenced by management’s choice to roll out her model to regional teams on the east coast.
I used a chart to add visual impact by showing the financial growth that was achieved under Janet’s leadership and lets the reader see why she was an 8 Year Medallion Winner!
Janet’s mathematical skills and sales acumen are a major part of her brand; in addition to being a numbers person she is also a creative thinker, a potent combination in a finance executive. I wanted readers to see these talents quickly so I placed them in headline format entitled Team Leadership Philosophy which concisely explains what she does, how she does it, and why it works!
The section on Operational Leadership brings her career story full circle. Management’s repeated recognition of her stellar accomplishments is validated by having selected her as a Champion for multiple initiatives-multiple times, clearly demonstrating their investment in her future banking career.
